Jacoba Kloosterboer - Psychodynamic Counsellor, MBACP (Adults & young people 11+)
Most people come into counselling to try and resolve something that is preventing them from living a full and satisfying life. It could be the diagnosis of an illness, or the loss of a friend or relative. You may have lost your job or perhaps you are struggling with infertility or post natal depression. You might just be feeling quite low and not like yourself.
I believe that we all have a natural instinct to lead a healthy, happy and fulfilling life. But sometimes events and situations can be barriers that stand in the way of accessing our true potential.
My core training is in psychodynamic counselling which focuses on the importance of the unconscious and the way that our past experience, deeply rooted trauma or learned behaviour from childhood can shape our thoughts, feelings and behaviour in the present.
Psychotherapy encourages and supports you to explore and unravel the experiences of your past - as well as to recognise dysfunctional or defensive patterns of behaviour - which might be influencing the way you feel, behave or cope with the challenges in your life. This can lead to a greater sense of life meaning, purpose and value and the effects can be long lasting.
I feel it is important to focus on personal growth and to build personal resilience, providing you with the internal psychological tools that you can use going forward to resolve problems and pursue goals that are meaningful to you.
I aim to build up a working relationship with you that is based on trust, confidentiality and respect and that you come away feeling supported. I work at your pace, in a non-judgemental and empathic way.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
