Hello, my name is Liz. I am a trainee counsellor and psychotherapist in advanced training. The modality I use is Transactional Analysis (or TA for short). TA provides a framework through which we can develop an understanding of ourselves and how we have become the person we are today. It helps us to understand our relationship with ourselves (our internal world), our relationships with others, and our sense of our place in the world.
We all have a script: a life plan made in early childhood that served us well at a time when we had very little power or control. However, as we grow, we may not update this script and can find that our old patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving can really hold us back.
Together we will explore the recurring patterns in your life that may be contributing to some of your current struggles. This will be with the goal of creating positive shifts and changes that can enrich your relationship with yourself and others, and help you to find your own authentic voice. The language and concepts of TA are accessible and easy to understand and, during therapy, this becomes a language that we share, providing a strong sense of working together.
I have a background of working for many years as a nurse, and then as a specialist advisor/ emotional support for those with life limiting neurological conditions and their carers/family members. Since then I have also gained experience of working in the field of mental health within NHS and charity sector partnerships supporting people with a variety of issues impacting on mental health and wellbeing. This included working within Crisis Cafés. As well as my current studies, I am also about to embark on a certificate in working with children and young people and, through placement, I have experience of working with primary school children.
I have worked alongside adults experiencing the following issues:
• Bereavement and anticipatory grief
• Personal relationship issues
• Family relationship issues
• Peer relationship issues
• Life changes
I look forward to welcoming you to a safe, confidential and collaborative space.
